National Treasure Rita Moreno to Perform her Scene Stealing Classics at Queensborough’s Performing Arts Center (QPAC) On September 25
Rita Moreno’s show-stopping performances from such iconic musicals as Singing in the Rain, The King and I, Carnal Knowledge and West Side Story will be among her many appearances celebrated at QPAC on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 3:00pm.
Moreno’s illustrious career has spanned over seven decades. She is one of very few performers to have won all four major American entertainment awards: an Oscar (and the first Hispanic actress to win the award), an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony. She is also one of 22 people who have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting, with individual competitive Academy, Emmy and Tony awards. She is one of only two people who have achieved both distinctions.
From her early years in theater to the height of her film stardom, Moreno rose above the limitations of Hollywood typecasting, establishing herself as a versatile performer with virtually unlimited talent. She collected dozens of show business awards and honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was named a Kennedy Center Lifetime Artistic Achievement Honoree. Her status as a national treasure was officially recognized when President George W. Bush presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004. She was also awarded the American National Medal of the Arts in 2010 by President Barack Obama for her lifetime of service and contributions to the arts.
Her stage credits, which are too many to fully list here, include: She Loves Me, Sunset Boulevard, and The Ritz; and on television: The Electric Company, Oz, Law and Order Special Victims and most recently, Jane the Virgin.
